Rajeswari Academic Block

Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) along with the Rajeswari Academic Block was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi on 25th March, 2023 in rural district Chikkaballapur, Karnataka where the doctor to patient ratio is 1:11,340 (WHO recommends 1:1000). This college will change the landscape of rural healthcare by providing free medical education to deserving rural students from underprivileged families.

The salient features are:

  • In the rural, for the rural, by the rural. Meaning-located in a rural area, for the rural healthcare, delivered by students who come from rural areas

  • 100 rural students will be enrolled annually

  • Values-based education and compassionate care training

  • Clinical training in hospitals that provide free medical services to all:

    • 360-bedded multi-specialty Sarla Memorial Hospital

    • 400-bedded multi-specialty Hospital (under construction)                                     

The Medical College as well as the affiliated hospitals are completely free of cost.

Admissions

Selection only given to students from rural India belonging to families with poor socio-economic background.

Undergraduate medical education and rural service

5 years of education leading to an MBBS degree followed by 5 years of rural medical service.

Post-graduate medical education and rural service

3 years of speciality education leading to an MD/MS degree followed by 3 years of rural medical service

                                               AND

3 years of super-speciality education leading to a DM/MCh degree followed by 3 years of rural medical service.
